Dehumidifiers At Home - Removing Moisture From The Air

A dehumidifier is a machine that removes humidty from the air, meaning that water is taken out of the air and retained within the dehumidifier. The reason for doing this is mainly for health reasons, because excess moisture in the air can encourage mould and fungi to grow. For thos with susceptibility to these allergens, this can be a big problem, so removing excess moisture from the air can have a very positive impact on the health.

In addition, excess moisture can have a negative effect on your surroundings; your home and some of the furniture within the home. Some electrical equipment can be affected by excess humidity too.

There are two basic types of dehumidifier; descican dehumidifiers and mecahnincal (refrigerating) dehumidifiers. The former works on the basis of passing humid air over chemicals which attract water vapour and absorb it, thereby removing it from the air. Mecahnical dehumidifiers work by passing humid air over a refrigerated coil with a fan. The water in the air condenses and drops into a bucket for later disposal.

With respect to the relative effectiveness of these methods of demumidification, mechanical dehumidifiers are known to be more effctive ith very high rates of humidity (50% and above). One side benefit of the mechanical method is that heat is produced during the process, so these types of dehumidifier can actually act as a heater as well as removing water vapour from the air.

Having looked into a dehumdifier, you might want to look into other ways to help your air purifier system?
