Air Cleaners - Getting The Air Your Deserve

The first thing to get straight, I think, is the difference between an air cleaner and an air purifier. Both attempt to do the same job of removing dust, pollen and other allergens from a room. The difference lies in how the job is performed.

Air cleaner rely on an air filter to remove the allergens. Air is passed over a filter which is so small that whilst the air passes though it, tiny particles are retained for later disposal. The most popular type of filter available is probably the Hepa filter, which stands for High Efficiency Particulate Arrestor. This particular type of filter is almost 100% efficient in removing particles as small as three microns (which is pretty small!).

Air purifiers use other means to remove allergens from the air.

For example there are UV (Ultra Violet) air purifiers which work using light to remove allergens, There are ionic purifiers which use charged ions to knock out oppositely charged ions which. hold the allergens and impurities.

Which option you choose depends on your individual circumstances. Some situations can be best served by utilising both types of technology, a purifier as the general air filtration system in the house and an air cleaner in more frequently used rooms to enhance the protection in those areas.

So, one of the first question that we need to have answered is whether Ionic Air cleaners actually work?
